Another island-wide power failure

An island-wide power failure was reported a short while ago, the Power and Renewable Energy Ministry said. Ministry Secretary Dr. Suren Batagoda said the cause of blackout experienced at around 2.15 this afternoon could be due to the tripping of a substation in Biyagama. He said engineers from the CEB were looking into the matter. On an earlier occasion a similar power outage occurred causing much uncertainty about the reason for it.


  

Power supply to be fully restored by 6 pm-Ministry

The power supply has now been restored to several areas in the country while it is expected to be fully restored by 6 pm today, Power and Renewable Energy Ministry Secretary Dr. Suren Batagoda said. He said a technical fault at a sub station in Biyagama was the likely cause for the countrywide power outage. However, the reason for the fault was not immediately known.
