AASL issues scam alert over selling unclaimed luggage for Rs. 645
[Monday 2024-12-30 16:00]

The Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has alerted the public on a false post circulating on social media claiming that unclaimed luggage is being offered for sale at a price of Rs. 645, Airport & Aviation Services Sri Lanka Private Ltd. (AASL) said.

Issuing a scam alert advisory, the AASL clarified that this information is entirely false and not endorsed by Airport & Aviation Services Sri Lanka Private Ltd. "We have been made aware of unofficial social media pages and websites impersonating the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and publishing posts offering unclaimed luggage for sale," the AASL said.

The AASL urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid responding to such advertisements. It also requested individuals to report such pages as scams if they come across these advertisements. The fake social media post in question reads as follows:

"Get a suitcase with luggage for Rs. 645!

Sri Lanka's Bandaranaike International Airport is holding a sale of lost luggage that has been stored for more than 6 months. As per the rules, the airport must remove these items. A charity program has been organized to sell forgotten luggage for Rs. 645.

For all details, please visit https://tinyurl.com/Bandaranaike-Airport or click the 'Order' button and take a moment to answer a few questions."

The BIA has strongly refuted these claims and reiterated that it does not engage in such activities.
