Take legal action against former Speaker, Deputy Speaker: Leader of the House

Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayke today requested Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne to look into the possibility of taking action against his predecessor Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, former Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa and former Deputy Chairman of Committees Angajan Ramanathan for alleged excessive use of fuel during their tenures.


  

"Former Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has used nine vehicles from January 1 2024 and had spent Rs. 33 million for fuel, Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa has used six vehicles in 2024 incurring an expense of Rs. 13 million. The then Deputy Chairman of Committees Angajan Ramanathan has used four vehicles incurring a loss of Rs. 7 million for fuel in 2024," Ratnayake said.

"The documents which I table today have been certified by the Finance Director of Parliament. I request the Speaker to look into the possibility of taking action against these persons," he added.

Court grants bail to passenger arrested for attempting to sexually harass flight attendants
