Govt. will not retain CDS position: Defence Secretary

The government will not retain the position of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Sampath Thuyacontha said.

The government will not retain the position of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Sampath Thuyacontha said.

  

Speaking at a media briefing, the Defence Secretary confirmed that the government does not plan to continue the CDS role and that the responsibilities associated with the position will be managed by the Ministry of Defence.

The CDS post has remained vacant following the conclusion of General Shavendra Silva's tenure.

Automated system to block mobile phones with TRCSL approval

Committee submits report on passport issue

The committee appointed to study the passport issue and work out recommendations to resolve it has handed over its report to the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala. The report will be presented to the Cabinet next week. According to the recommendations, a decision will be made on whether or not to change the current procedure for issuing passports, a Ministry spokesman said.

Sri Lanka imports salt from India

Sri Lanka today (27) received a shipment of 1,485 metric tons of salt imported from India to mitigate a shortage in the local market. The move to import salt follows the Cabinet of Ministers' approval to bring in 30,000 metric tons of salt to ensure an adequate supply in the market.
