Third chairman under Bimal resigns

The third chairman of an institution under the purview of Minister of Transport and Highways Bimal Rathnayaka has resigned. Accordingly, the Chairman of the National Transport Commission (NTC), Dileepa Vitarana, has stepped down from his position. It is reported that he has submitted the relevant resignation letter to the Transport Ministry.


Modi to undertake state visit to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6

Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will undertake a State visit to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism said. During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is set to hold bilateral talks with President Anura Kumara Disanayaka and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.


Withholding Tax Hike: Banks alert customers ahead of April 1 change

Man sentenced to 51 years for raping nine-year-old girl

An accused who stood indicted with the rape and gential mutilation of a nine year old girl was found guilty and sentenced to 51 year rigorous imprisonment by Kuliyapitiya High Court Judge Manoj Thalgodapitiya. he Attorney General had filed indictments against the accused under six counts.


27 arrested for protesting in violation of court order in Colombo

MP Chamara Sampath remanded in separate bribery case

Badulla MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who was previously granted bail in two bribery cases, has now been remanded until April 1 in a separate bribery case. Earlier today, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption questioned the MP regarding three corruption charges, including an alleged financial irregularity during his tenure as a provincial minister.
