Preparations are currently underway at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka today (04) for a three-day official visit.

Accordingly, the schedule of flights arriving and departing from the BIA has been slightly changed for the special flight carrying the Indian Prime Minister from Bangkok, Thailand.

In addition, a special ‘limousine’ type VIP security car has been sent to the BIA to ensure his safe travel within Sri Lanka, as well as another group of security escort vehicles to provide security for the convoy.

A fleet of helicopters belonging to the Indian Air Force too has arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

Also, a large number of Indian security and intelligence officers have been deployed for duty at the Katunayake Airport and its surrounding areas.

Pictures of the Indian Prime Minister have been displayed along with the Sri Lankan and Indian national flags along the roads from the airport and the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway to Colombo.

The police are also taking steps to periodically close the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm, when the Indian Prime Minister and his entourage will arrive at the BIA.
